Town of the Written Word and Book Crafts - Montmorillon

Entertainment (artisan markets, demonstrations and exhibitions) all for a memorable experience. Books fair, candlelit evenings in the Town of the Written Word ...

Cross the 14th century Gothic bridge over the Gartempe River and discover a timeless world for book lovers, art lovers, collectors of rare editions, and families looking for a different type of visit. Just enter an antique bookshop and you will feel like you have been transported to another world.

Everyone, from bookworms, science fiction and mystery fans, to tourists who aren't looking for anything in particular, will find something to suit them.

Bookbinding, calligraphy, gold leaf gilding, illumination, engraving and painting - you will see all the talents of enthusiastic local artists as you walk through the town streets.

You can also try your hand at these arts by taking an art class or by personally visiting an artist at his studio... Don't miss out on the numerous original works that make perfect gifts that you won't find anywhere else.

All year there are many beginners and advanced courses for individuals, groups, adults, and students. A themed and artistic exposition, book readings, signings, lectures...

There are also many charming cafes and restaurants in the town centre where you can dine or simply have a drink.

When you arrive, we encourage you to go to the village's information centre La Préface to receive a free visitor's guide.
