Chaffaud Cave - Savigné

Many human traces have been found in the Poitou region, these testify a continuos occupation of the land since prehistoric times. On the right bank of the Charente River, the excavation of four caves (the largest being the Grotte du Puits ) has unearthed many human and animal bones, hewed flint stone and artefacts dating to the Magdalenian period. Unaccompanied or guided visits of the site. A discovery trail leads you to each of the caves along the Charente River.

NEW : children and adults can take part in numerous activities on the theme of "Relive Prehistory", napping flints, sling shots, wall painting, leather work, making of oil lamps.

Unaccompanied visits, ofr with a trained archaeologist as a guide.

On site : leisure park, regional produce centre, and restaurant.

Nearby : Charroux Abbey and the Romanesque church at Civray.
