Valence Abbey - Valence-en-Poitou

Founded in 1230 by Hugues X of Lusignan, the magnificent Cistercian Valence Abbey was an imposing sight. The 70-metre-long church was one of the most important monuments in southern Vienne.
Unfortunately, fires, the French Revolution and poor maintenance resulted in the destruction of a large part of the building. All that remains today is part of the monks’ refectory.
