Préfecture de la Vienne

Located on Place Aristide Briand in the heart of Poitiers, the prefecture is much more than just an administrative building. Built between 1864 and 1868 in a neoclassical style inspired by Louis XIII, it quickly became a symbol of state power in the provinces. Its imposing architecture, with its brick and stone facades, and its rich interior decorations, make it a remarkable building.

Although the prefecture is primarily a workplace, it regularly opens its doors to the public for cultural events and guided tours. These opportunities allow visitors to discover the architectural and historical riches of this iconic building.
