Mirebeau was built in an eagle's nest, on a hillside overlooking the Mirebalaise plain. The Counts of Anjou built one of the largest fortified castles in the west here. Unfortunately Cardinal de Richelieu had it destroyed and its stones were used to build the town of Richelieu.
