Vendeuvre, once the heart of a region of cultural exchange, during Roman times between the Pictons and Ambilatres and during the Middle Ages between the Poitevins and Angevins, nowadays is a market town.

In summer the area produces melons, and in spring there is asparagus, and in winter local pumpkins called potirons - all of these are delicious!

Worth a visit: the Saint Aventin church (12th,13h, 15th C) which lost most of its stone bell tower in the earthquake that took place in 1704. Beautiful side gate and romanesque square tower.

The Tours Mirandes Gallo-Roman site, discovered in the 19th century, reveals the vestiges of an important Gallo-Roman agglomeration. Free visit.

The world renowned philosopher Michel Foucault is buried in the local cemetery.

Nearby : Marigny-Brizay and its cave dwellings, the Saint Léger Church and La Tour de Signy's monumental gateway.
