Bureau d'Information Touristique de Vouneuil-sur-Vienne
Between forest and river, Vouneuil-sur-Vienne includes amongst its treasures a large number of privately-owned châteaux which overlook the Vienne Valley. The CPIE (Permanent Environmental Initiative Center) offers a guided discovery tours of different areas (water, forest and wildlife); also of the Pinail Nature Reserve, the Moulière Forest, and the banks of the Vienne River.
A schedule of these visits is available at the tourist information office in a leaflet called "Le guide de l'été du Pays Châtelleraudais" .
The Battle of 732 : for those who would like to learn more about the battle of Poitiers (which saw Charles Martel fight against the Arab-Muslim army in 732 A.D), a giant chessboard and information boards, translated into English and in Arabic, can be found close to the town of Vouneuil, in a site named Ped-sec, along with a scenographical course.
The tourist office offers a guided tour of the 732 Battle site from July to August, on Wednesdays from 2pm to 3pm. In the heart of the community. The Albergé Path will help you discover the local historical and cultural heritage through a pleasant interactive walk.
Also see: the Ecologia Environmental Center. The mill offers free and guided visits of its three levels, wheelchair accessible. A souvenir shop is open every day during the months of April through to October. There is also a picnic area on site.
