Maison du Tourisme du Civraisien en Poitou – Accueil Touristique de Civray

Civray on the banks of the Charente has been a busy centre of commerce since Roman times.
The town is built around the romanesque church of Saint-Nicolas( 12th C ). The façade of the church has many sculptures, including the impressive and Wise and Foolish Virgins .
The old part of the town shows the administrative importance of Civray in pre-Revolutionary times when the town was an important administrative centre. The l'Hôtel de la Prévôté, on the tourist route, is an example of such a building.
You can also enjoy a panoramic view of the town and church from the ruins of the fortified castle. Civray is a holiday destination, and it has several interesting paths along the Charente river.
Accommodation : hotels, camp sites, bed and breakfasts, and chalets.
Local Markets Tuesdays and Fridays, fair first Tuesday of the month.
