The right bank of the Clouère was lined with castles including the manor of La Motte Comtais which was built in the 15th century, it is next to the castle of Le Pin whose square tower dates back to the 11th century. There was also a high density of mills: Comtais, Le Pin, Crochet, Puy Félix, Brossac, Le Pinier (Saint Maurice), the Patarin mill (Gençay), Machecou and La Vergne.
Most of them did not survive the technical developments of the late 19th century.
