The trail largely follows the old Roman road that linked Poitiers to Bourges. It once crossed the Vienne via a ford at Saint-Pierre-les-Eglises. On the way, not far from Chauvigny, discover the old Grippes stone quarry. Now filled in, it was long exploited with pickaxes. The working faces were still visible in 1980 until they were dismantled by the normal progress of extraction. Lost in the woods in the area known as "Peuron", you can observe a 19th-century lime kiln.
