Eglise de Baptresse

The church of Baptresse is a true open history book. Written sources confirm its existence from the Carolingian era, but archaeological excavations have revealed an even older past, marked by the presence of a Gallo-Roman temple.
The polytheistic altar (Mars, Vulcan, Hercules and Mercury) unearthed in 1835, today exhibited at the Poitiers museum, is tangible proof of this.

In addition, the hosanna cross located in the original cemetery bears witness to the Christian faith which gradually established itself on this site.

Today, this church serves as an exhibition space.
