Montmorillon, newly designated a Small Town of Character: the town along the Gartempe river

Built on the banks of the Gartempe River, this former market town developed in step with its paper mills and architectural gems, from the medieval Brouard district to its renowned Maison-Dieu (hospital). Here, the river's waters once powered paper mills, shaping the destiny of this town, which has become a haven for word lovers.
