Place Charles de Gaulle (market square) in Poitiers
In the historic center of Poitiers, the Place Charles de Gaulle (also called market place (by the inhabitants of Poitiers) offers one of the best panoramic views of the city. The square unfolds around the magnificent and luminous Notre-Dame-la-Grande church, a jewel of Romanesque art. The square is bordered by half-timbered houses, and the colors of the facades change with the passing hours.
On Saturday mornings, you can experience the market atmosphere. You'll find locals gathered around tables in groups of family and friends. Enjoy a few oysters, an espresso, or a glass of AOC Poitou wine, and you'll be swept away by the convivial atmosphere, summer or winter.
Good addresses
- The Arts Café The ideal spot to relax on a terrace under the trees. It's perfect for a coffee during the day, reading a book, or having a drink in the late afternoon.
- The Buvette by the Sea: One of the coolest new spots in town for a drink accompanied by delicious small plates and seafood to share. You'll receive a very warm welcome from Stéphane!
- La Petite Roquette: This is the leading artisanal pizzeria in Poitiers, a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a good pizza cooked in a real pizza oven and have a drink facing Notre-Dame-la-Grande.
- The Cluricaume Café : the legendary Irish pub in Poitiers. It's the perfect place for a good pint, a live concert, a match night or simply to enjoy a warm and cozy atmosphere.
- The toilet : it's the bar par excellence. Very popular with students and regulars, it's an almost obligatory stop to kick off your evening in a lively atmosphere.
The Guinguette Pictave
On the banks of the Clain river, in Poitiers, the Ilôt Tison offers a parenthesis of greenery and freshness Right in the heart of the city. In place of the old sawmill, the space, transformed into a market hall with a translucent roof, regularly becomes a performance venue. Guinguette Pictave welcomes strollers for a drink with their feet in the sand, a musical quiz, a game of cornhole, a darts tournament or a meal to choose from among the wide range of dishes offered by the food trucks.

At the bottom of the Montbernage district in Poitiers, the restaurant The Hyphen nestles on the banks of the Clain. In this bucolic setting, with modern decoration, two brothers present a cuisine that meets their two worlds: vegetarian and traditional. The terrace which directly overlooks the river is a real corner of tranquility in the heart of the city.
Republic Corner
In a large warehouse in the République area of Poitiers, the Republic Corner, with its distinctly "industrial" feel, invites you to relax, seated around large tables by the light of string lights or on the terrace under parasols. For snacks, six street food stalls display a variety of dishes. As for drinks, a giant dispenser offers ten beers to sip or cocktails at the bar. And every evening the atmosphere is different: salsa lessons, broadcasts of matches, karaoke, concerts, blind tests, DJ sets… as well as a games room for children!
The Garden
30 years ago, the colony of Saint-Hilaire was admirably transformed to become the Domaine de RoiffeToday, these immense buildings made of tufa stone and the verdant setting that surrounds them house a tourist complex with a hotel, golf course, spa, and the restaurant Le Garden. On its large terrace overlooking the park, creative dishes made with local produce can be enjoyed to your heart's content!
