kids choice
Luke Turlan, a talented designer now based in Chauvigny, for his unique artistic style and creativity developed a passion for drawing, which led him to a flourishing career in the art world. Today we asked him some questions about the Vienne !
You arrived late in the Vienne. How was your arrival?
I turned 40 following my encounter with a “pastry”. At the time, I was a teacher; I was adopted from day one by my colleagues! Then I met thewriter Régine Deforges in Montmorillon, who wrote two books that I illustrated. I also went to see Geste Éditions which did not yet make children's books.
After two covers, we made the first one Soft toyIncluding the hero is a donkey from Poitou, then a second, with a Poitou goat, then a third with a pig making a Poitou broyé. For 15 years, this collection has allowed me to travel throughout the department.
Tell us about “your” Chauvigny?
I live in an old stone house in the medieval city So wonderful. With my partner, we set up an artists' studio there, " The Little Jackdaw ". I like the streets when night falls with the little stairs lit up with yellow light. With the winter mist, you have the impression of being in a movie set.
I explore ChauvignyWhat are your favorite sites in the department?
I love the extraordinary diving pit of the Civaux aquatic center, the large greenhouse of land of dragons. To the Valley of the Monkeys, I'm a real kid!
It really is a pleasant department. Everywhere you go you look up and see a castle to medieval streets. Like a Morthemer, or the dissay princess castle. And then La Roche-Posay, where you can go to be pampered…
When you receive family and friends, where do you take them?
After Chauvigny, we go to Montmorillon whose city is so beautiful with the descent of the astonishing rue Montebello. We take the same photo as everyone else on the Gartempe bridge, with the perspective on this famous church which climbs in height.
and Hérolles fair, it's unique! Then we go to restaurant-church Les Archives in Poitiers, where you absolutely go to the toilet to have the view from above. Or At Cul de Paille, only restaurant where you read the walls… words from singers and actors who came to play in Poitiers.
In terms of gastronomy, what are your favorite local products?
When I arrived, they made me a crushed. I said: but what is this thing to die of pleasure? Then I like goat cheeses, stuffed poitevin that I introduce to all the people who come. I am not a real specialist, but there are good wines and good beers too. And the macarons, a great specialty for people on a gluten-free diet!
I savor the specialties of PoitouDoes this environment inspire you for your books?
I draw the things that exist around me: half-timbered houses, of narrow streets, Notre-Dame, even the Futuroscope, which is also a local heritage.
Or even a marabout of Sky Giants de Chauvigny, but to which I put slippers. Why go anywhere else when there are so many great things here. I would have to write a book a month because there are so many places I would like to tell.
